Driveways services

Our new driveways service

A new driveway is a groundworks job with a surface on top, and most of the driveways we are called out to replace failed underneath rather than on the face. We dig out to depth, cart the spoil away, lay and compact a Type 1 sub-base, and set the edge restraints in concrete before a single block, load of tarmac or bag of gravel arrives. Levels are worked out against your doorways, airbricks and the pavement so water runs off the driveway rather than towards the house.

What is included

What you get with new driveways

Everything below is part of the quoted price rather than an extra added on afterwards.

  • Full excavation and removal of the existing surface
  • Compacted sub-base to suit the ground conditions and the vehicles using it
  • Concrete-haunched edgings on every open edge
  • Surface water taken to a channel drain, gully or soakaway
  • Your choice of block paving, tarmac, gravel or resin bound as the finished surface
  • Reinstatement of the edges where the driveway meets lawn, beds or path

Our process

How it works

  1. 01

    Tell us about the job

Call, message on WhatsApp or send the quote form with your postcode and a rough idea of the area. A photo or two helps us picture it before we arrive.

  2. 02

    We come and measure up

We visit, measure the area, check access for machinery and materials, and look at where surface water currently goes.

  3. 03

    You get a written quote

The price is set out in writing with the materials named, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and compare it against anyone else.

  4. 04

    We book a start date

Once you are happy, we agree a date that suits you and tell you what to expect on site, including where the skip and materials will sit.

  5. 05

    We finish and clear up

The job is finished, the site is swept and cleared, and we walk it with you before we leave.

Why choose us

Why choose us for new driveways

  • A family-run team, so you deal with the people doing the work rather than a call centre.
  • The groundwork goes in before the surface, which is what decides how long the job lasts.
  • Driveways, paving, walls, fencing and turf are all in-house, so the levels and finishes line up.
  • A written price with the materials named, so you can compare it properly.

What affects the price

No two jobs price the same. These are the things that move it most:

  • Square metres, and how much existing surface has to be lifted
  • Ground conditions once the old surface is off
  • Material choice and laying pattern
  • The drainage solution the site needs
  • Whether steps or walls form part of the same job

Areas we cover

We take on new driveways across Mansfield, Nottingham, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton, Heanor, Ilkeston, Shirebrook and Clay Cross.

FAQs

New Driveways FAQs

How long does a new driveway take?

It depends on the size, the material and the ground. We put a realistic timescale in the written quote before you commit, so you know how long the driveway is out of use.

Can we still park while the work is going on?

Not on the driveway itself. Once it is dug out it stays out of use until the surface is finished, so it is worth sorting alternative parking before the start date.

Which surface should I choose?

Block paving gives you the widest choice of colour and pattern and single blocks can be lifted and replaced. Tarmac is quick to lay and gives a clean, unbroken finish. Gravel is the cheapest to put down and drains freely. We will talk through what suits the property when we measure up.
