What we do

Our patios service

Patios look simple and are unforgiving to get wrong. The level has to sit at least 150mm below the damp proof course, the falls have to move water away from the house rather than towards it, and the slabs have to be laid on a full mortar bed rather than on five dabs, or they rock and crack. We dig out to depth, lay a compacted sub-base, and bed every slab fully. Joints are pointed or brushed depending on the material, and cuts around drains, steps and door thresholds are made on a saw so the lines stay clean.

What is included

What do you get with a new patio installation

Everything below is part of the quoted price rather than an extra added on afterwards.

  • Excavation to depth and removal of spoil
  • Compacted sub-base under the whole patio area
  • Full mortar bed under every slab, not spot bedding
  • Levels set below the damp proof course with falls away from the house
  • Saw-cut slabs around drains, thresholds and edges
  • Pointing or brushed jointing to suit the material

Our process

How it works

  1. 01

    Tell us about the job

Call, message on WhatsApp or send the quote form with your postcode and a rough idea of the area. A photo or two helps us picture it before we arrive.

  2. 02

    We come and measure up

We visit, measure the area, check access for machinery and materials, and look at where surface water currently goes.

  3. 03

    You get a written quote

The price is set out in writing with the materials named, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and compare it against anyone else.

  4. 04

    We book a start date

Once you are happy, we agree a date that suits you and tell you what to expect on site, including where the skip and materials will sit.

  5. 05

    We finish and clear up

The job is finished, the site is swept and cleared, and we walk it with you before we leave.

Why choose us

Why choose us for patios

  • A family-run team, so you deal with the people doing the work rather than a call centre.
  • The groundwork goes in before the surface, which is what decides how long the job lasts.
  • Driveways, paving, walls, fencing and turf are all in-house, so the levels and finishes line up.
  • A written price with the materials named, so you can compare it properly.

What affects the price

No two jobs price the same. These are the things that move it most:

  • Area, shape and how much cutting the layout creates
  • The paving you choose: Indian sandstone, porcelain and concrete slabs price very differently
  • Ground conditions and how much has to come out
  • Steps, raised areas or retaining walls forming part of the patio
  • Drainage, including any channel drain across doorways
  • Access for materials and for taking waste out

Areas we cover

We take on patios across Mansfield, Nottingham, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton, Heanor, Ilkeston, Shirebrook and Clay Cross.

FAQs

Patios FAQs

What paving do you lay?

Indian sandstone, porcelain and concrete slabs. Indian sandstone gives a natural, riven surface with colour variation. Porcelain is dense, colour-consistent and easier to keep clean, but it needs a primer on the back of each slab and precise cutting. Concrete slabs are the most affordable and come in a wide range of finishes, including textures cast to imitate natural stone.

How close to the house can the patio be?

The finished surface has to sit at least 150mm below the damp proof course so it does not bridge it. Where the level does not allow that, a channel drain or a step down deals with it.

Will the patio drain?

Yes. Falls are set so water runs away from the building, and where the patio is enclosed or sits against bifold doors we put a channel drain in and take it to a suitable outlet.
