Patios services

Our new patio service

We build new patios from the ground up. The area is dug out to depth, a sub-base is laid and compacted, and every slab is bedded on a full mortar bed so it takes weight evenly across the whole slab. Porcelain gets a slurry primer on the back, which is what stops it releasing from the bed a year later. Falls are set away from the house, cuts are made on a saw, and the perimeter is finished against lawn, beds or walls so there is no soft edge for the paving to drop into.

What is included

What you get with new patio

Everything below is part of the quoted price rather than an extra added on afterwards.

  • Excavation, spoil removal and a compacted sub-base
  • Full mortar bed under every slab, with a primer under porcelain
  • Levels set below the damp proof course, falls away from the house
  • Saw-cut slabs at edges, thresholds and around drainage
  • Pointing or brushed jointing appropriate to the paving
  • Edges finished against lawn, beds, walls or a border course

Our process

How it works

  1. 01

    Tell us about the job

Call, message on WhatsApp or send the quote form with your postcode and a rough idea of the area. A photo or two helps us picture it before we arrive.

  2. 02

    We come and measure up

We visit, measure the area, check access for machinery and materials, and look at where surface water currently goes.

  3. 03

    You get a written quote

The price is set out in writing with the materials named, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and compare it against anyone else.

  4. 04

    We book a start date

Once you are happy, we agree a date that suits you and tell you what to expect on site, including where the skip and materials will sit.

  5. 05

    We finish and clear up

The job is finished, the site is swept and cleared, and we walk it with you before we leave.

Why choose us

Why choose us for new patio

  • A family-run team, so you deal with the people doing the work rather than a call centre.
  • The groundwork goes in before the surface, which is what decides how long the job lasts.
  • Driveways, paving, walls, fencing and turf are all in-house, so the levels and finishes line up.
  • A written price with the materials named, so you can compare it properly.

What affects the price

No two jobs price the same. These are the things that move it most:

  • Area and the amount of cutting the shape creates
  • Paving choice, Indian sandstone against porcelain or concrete slabs, and slab size
  • Ground conditions and depth of dig
  • Steps, raised sections or retaining walls
  • A channel drain across doorways where the level calls for one
  • Border courses or a contrasting edge detail

Areas we cover

We take on new patio across Mansfield, Nottingham, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton, Heanor, Ilkeston, Shirebrook and Clay Cross.

FAQs

New Patio FAQs

Indian sandstone, porcelain or concrete slabs?

Indian sandstone is a natural stone with riven texture and colour variation, and it weathers and mellows. Porcelain is manufactured, so the colour is consistent, it takes up very little water and it stays cleaner, but it costs more to buy and takes longer to cut and lay. Concrete slabs are the most affordable of the three and come in a wide range of finishes, some cast to imitate riven stone.

Do you need to seal a new patio?

Porcelain does not need sealing. Natural stone can be sealed to reduce staining, though it is a choice rather than a requirement, and it has to be redone periodically.

Can you build the patio at the same level as the house floor?

Not right up against the wall. Building regulations require the finished paving to sit well below the damp proof course. Where you want a level threshold at bifolds, a channel drain across the doors is the usual answer.
